Dear Business Owner

Branding…branding is a topic not many business owners spend much time on in the beginning stage of their business because some think “branding” consists purely of a cute logo and a beautiful color palette that can be easily put together in Canva (please don’t). Although these could be considered the more fun factors of your brand identity these aren’t the only factors. Your unique brand is one that will show your business personality, values, what customers can expect from you, and the quality of your products or services.

So you may be wondering why not use the graphics & fonts Canva provides to create a logo? Well, in the beginning, why not? If you are just getting your feet off the ground with little to no profits, might as well! But THINK BIGGER! You don’t always want to be considered a ‘small business’. You want to live comfortably off this income by following your passion.

  1. Dream Clients

We all have those clients we dream to work with; those with the dreamy personality, a certain aesthetic, age group, gender, etc. You need to tap into that community that you desire to work with. This is where investing in a brand designer that has a focus on strategy is important. This new brand identity you’ve now established can attract your dream customers and do so for a long time.

  1. Trademark

Holy sh*t, you made it! Honestly, when it comes to buying a trademark it’s better to do it sooner than later because remember, we are thinking BIG. This business you created is not short term, this is a long term endeavor that you will continue to invest in, in order to grow. Let’s trademark your logo. Well…guess what? You can’t trademark a Canva logo. Canva templates can be used by anyone, this includes their graphics, fonts, and other assets - all property of Canva, never the property of you. Now I’m not a complete Canva hater, at all, Canva is a great place to create social graphics, and story templates! So keep using it for that, but do not waste your time for your branding.

  1. Strategy

Having a brand strategy is just as important as having a marketing strategy. But what’s the difference? To put it simply…EVERYTHING. 🙂 A brand strategy is the approach on how your brand shows itself to your customers; like the voice of your brand, the story behind it, vibes, and values. Your brand strategy is long term, whereas your marketing strategy will be ever changing and have more short term actions due to changes in trends, and algorithms. Your different logo variations need to be backed by strategy because even if your DIY beautiful logo is working for the time being, it won’t be as successful as a design that has been curated with strategy.

  1. Confidence

Similar to the feeling you get on Christmas morning is the feeling when you see your brand files arrive to you! When hiring a brand designer you get all the assets your brand will need! This includes 25 - 75 files depending on the package you choose. These are all things you, as a business owner, can use to elevate your brand on social media, and print. It’s the equivalent to getting dressed in your favorite outfit, doing your hair, and makeup; you feel so much more confident then when you just throw something on. When you have a strong brand identity you gain more confidence in your business because you present yourself more professionally and your clientele sees your biz that same way.
