You, Your Business, & Your Color Palette

A color palette for your brand may be of little importance to you, especially because there are so many other important factors when it comes to being a new business owner or just a business owner in general. But the colors you choose to use in your brand identity, the colors you choose to use in your Instagram feed speak to your audience before you even get the chance to. Colors can make people feel a certain way, which is why it’s important you choose your color palette on strategy to align with your brand values and how you want to portray your business.

When you see the color red you think of fiery passion, right? We can’t be the only one, matter of fact according to color psychology the color red sparks the strongest emotions of any color. The color red can evoke emotions such as love, passion, excitement, desire, strength, and power. This might be a good color to use if you’re a matchmaker or a personal trainer. Mon Cheri uses a dark, deep red tone in their logo to give a sense of passion between lovers.

Orange embodies optimism, vitality, and self confidence. The color orange can also feel stimulating, especially on the appetite; therefore the color orange would be ideal for a café.

Name a color more cheery than yellow…we’ll wait. The color yellow typically reminds people of enjoying warm sunny days. Yellow is associated with happiness, energy, hope, creativity, and excitement. Yellow could play an important role in a color palette for a ceramic studio, a surf shop, or for a florist. Mugg'd uses a yellowy orange and some more rusty orange tones in their palette to play into the happiness, and self confidence you'll feel while creating your ceramic creations.

The color green is an earthy tone that, depending on the shade, can really ground a person. The color green screams of abundance, peace, luck, fertility, and tranquility. Green can speak to a ton of different professions but some that we think are fitting are a hot spring spa, doula, or financial advisor.

There is nothing like looking up at a clear blue sky; there is a sense of calming that comes with it. That is just what the color blue does. Blue gives you a sense of safety and security. Other emotions that correlate with the color blue are friendly, trustworthy, and spiritual; so in most cases throwing a shade of blue in your color palette wouldn't be a bad idea (if that's your vibe). Blue would work fantastic for a spiritual center, or a security company. Picnic Club uses blues to suggest trust with their clients.

Like most colors, different shades of purple can make you feel different ways. For example, a lighter more pastel purple can feel something - hence why you find a shade of light purple in a plethora of beauty products. A darker rich purple can feel luxurious or even mysterious and romantic. Purple shades would work great for a tarot card reader, a natural skin care line, or a high end bedding company.

Oh, the color of looooovvvveeee. We love, love. The color pink is both playful and romantic (sounds like the perfect partner). Pink represents youth, romance, sweetness, and charm. The color pink would play well for a kids clothing boutique, a candy shop, or anyone? (Who doesn’t love pink?). Lorelai King uses pink in their logo due to being a wedding planner where love is in the air!

Browns and nudes are all the rage as of now and Made Moxie definitely has tons of neutrals and browns in our color palette. Besides just liking the clean look neutrals bring to an aesthetic there is a method behind our madness. Browns are another color that brings you down to earth, it creates a sense of support, stability, warmth, and dependability.

If we are talking about logos, you will always want a black and white version of all your logo options (main, secondary, logo mark, etc.). These color options are so universal and they should work most places you need to use them. Colors really speak to the subconscious mind on how they make a person feel. Keep in mind, just like everything in life, colors make different people feel different things. Red for example may make you think love but for someone else it might bring out a type of anger. You cannot please everyone, and that is okay.
